There is Nothing in the World More Helpless

In the course of researching American moonshine and Irish poitin, I have naturally come across many references to ether use, abuse, frolics, and binges. This is in the running for my favorite quote of all.

That's um...not Hunter S. Thompson?

Who? No, I'm pretty sure that's Salinger. You know: press secretary to JFK and Lyndon Johnson.

Oh my. This is brilliant on every level. It ranks right up there with the famous Abraham Lincoln quote about not trusting everything you see on the internet.

I hate you Rowley. As soon as I saw the beginning of that quote and the picture of Vonnegut...I knew that my loathing of you would be complete.

I was right.

Bitch. That's obviously Martha Stewart in the picture.

Oh, my, I've been had...

This really caps off my evening, having discovered that a little hole-in-the-wall Thai place has the best craft cocktails in town, and then having discovered that the dishwasher at my restaurant lives down the street from me in one of the swankier neighborhoods in the city.

Well done, Rowley.

That is for sure a Hunter S. Thompson quote from "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas: A Savage Journey To The Heart Of The American Dream". Good book.

Scott ~ I am reminded of the words photographer Douglas Dalay whispered to me: "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you." Had a very Leonard Cohen "Take This Waltz" feel to it.

Nathan ~ Ta. Did you know the word 'gullible" is not in any American dictionary?

Dietsch ~ I think that's Paula Deen you're thinking of: http://matthew-rowley.blogspot.com/2012/06/kitchen-wisdom.html

Anonymous ~ You're the second person to mention this gonzo Thomas character. I've never heard of him. Are you sure you've got your facts right?
